Online appointment

Book an appointment with a lawyer, find out how to join on the day, and soon, check your booking.

We are not taking bookings yet. We expect to start in mid to late November 2026. If your problem cannot wait, go to Other help.

Book an appointment

When we open, you can book here. You tell us about yourself, your legal problem and when you are free, and we contact you within 5 working days to confirm a time. To hear the day we open, email admin@opencommunitylegal.org.au.

How to join your appointment

  1. Check your confirmation

Once we confirm your time, we send you an email or text with the date, the time and a link to join. It only says Appointment with Open Community Legal, not what it is about.

  2. Get ready

Find a quiet, private place where no one can hear you. Charge your phone, tablet or computer. Have your papers and questions nearby.

  3. Join on time

A few minutes before your appointment, open the link and press Join. It opens in your web browser, such as Chrome, Safari or Edge. You do not need to download anything or create an account.

  4. Wait to be let in

You may see a waiting screen. Your lawyer lets you in when they are ready.

  5. Safety check first

Your lawyer starts by asking if you are somewhere private and safe to talk. If you are not, tell them, and we will find another time.

  • If the video does not work, we call you on the phone number you gave us.
  • If you asked for an interpreter, they join the call. You do not need to arrange anything.
  • You can have a support person with you. Please tell us before the day.
  • If you cannot make it, call us on 04 2525 8080 or email admin@opencommunitylegal.org.au as soon as you can, and we will find another time.

Recording: with your permission, we may record your appointment or make a written transcript, so we have an accurate record of our advice. We ask you at the start. You can say no, and it will not change the help you get.

My appointment

Coming later. You will be able to sign in here with a one-time code sent to your phone or email, to see your appointment time, change or cancel it, and join your video call. Until then, your appointment details and the link to join are in the confirmation we send you.
