We are not giving legal advice yet. We expect to start in mid to late November 2026 after we have finalised insurance and registration matters. Until then, our free guides are open to everyone. The content of this website may be subject to further review and changes.

Support us

Your support helps people talk to a lawyer when they could not otherwise afford one. You can give money, give your time, or tell someone who needs help about us. Gifts of any size are welcome.

Give

Your gift pays for a person to talk to a lawyer about a problem that could cost them their home, their children or their safety.

We have applied to be a deductible gift recipient. Until that is approved, gifts are not tax deductible. Every donor gets a receipt.

Volunteer with us

We need lawyers, law students and people with other skills: writing plain English, translating, web and technology, fundraising and administration.

What we ask of every volunteer

  • a current Working with Children Check if you work with clients
  • references, and a police check for some roles
  • for lawyers, a current practising certificate
  • to follow our Safeguarding, Conflict of Interest and Privacy policies

What you get: an induction, supervision from our Supervising Legal Practitioner, and support when the work is hard. Volunteers who are not lawyers do not give legal advice.

To register your interest, email admin@opencommunitylegal.org.au. Tell us your name, your phone number, how you would like to help, and whether you are a lawyer or law student. Attach your CV if you have one.

Work with us

We work with community legal centres, legal aid, family violence and support services, and pro bono lawyers. If your organisation would like to work with us, or you are a law firm or barrister who can offer pro bono help, email admin@opencommunitylegal.org.au.

Referring someone to us

If you wish to refer someone to us, ask them to contact us. They can book on our Online appointment page, or contact us by phone or email.
